Katsina: Gov Radda Proceeds On Medical Leave, Hands Over To Deputy

By Our Correspondent

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has temporarily stepped aside from his official duties to address health concerns, entrusting the leadership of the state to his deputy for the next three weeks.

The development was announced in a statement on Thursday by the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango. According to the commissioner, the governor’s decision followed medical advice to take time off in order to recuperate fully.

Quoting the governor, Zango said: “Taking the necessary steps to prioritize my health is essential so I can continue to serve effectively and make the best decisions for our state.”

The statement further confirmed that Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal “has been designated to assume the responsibilities” of Governor Radda until his return at the end of the three-week period.

Governor Radda expressed strong confidence in his deputy’s capacity to steer the affairs of the state, assuring residents that governance would not suffer in his absence. “Dedication and commitment will be the same,” he affirmed.

He also reassured the public that all government programmes, initiatives and projects currently in motion “will continue to progress without interruption.”

While wishing the governor a speedy recovery, the statement emphasized that the administration “looks forward to his return, healthy and ready to continue serving the community.”

Governor Radda, who assumed office in May 2023, has been at the forefront of several development initiatives in Katsina, particularly in the areas of security, education and agricultural reform. His temporary medical leave is the first such break since taking the reins of leadership.
