Ebonyi Gov Sympathises With Flood Victims At Afikpo, Abakaliki

Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru has expressed sympathy to victims of the recent flood disasters in Enohia Itim and Kpoghirikpo communities in Afikpo Local Government Area, as well as Azuoto Okpuitumo in Abakaliki Local Government Area, where seven people were confirmed dead with property worth millions destroyed.

According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor, the governor described the incident, which began penultimate Friday and only started receding on Monday, as devastating, leaving deaths and widespread destruction in its wake.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the devastating flood that recently affected Enohia Itim and Kpoghirikpo communities in Afikpo Local Government Area and Azuoto Okpuitumo in Abakaliki Local Government Area. I sincerely condole the families who lost loved ones, as well as all who suffered losses during this unfortunate incident,” Nwifuru stated.

He assured that his administration would work closely with the affected communities, local authorities and relevant agencies to ensure prompt delivery of relief materials, rehabilitation support and preventive measures.

Nwifuru also urged residents to consider the realities of climate change in their daily activities, particularly during future rainy seasons.

“This tragedy is a sober reminder of the urgent need to integrate climate change considerations into our flood risk management strategies,” he added.
