Jigawa State Executive Council has approved increased funding for its free basic healthcare initiative, J-Basic, which targets vulnerable and residents across the state.

Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, disclosed this to newsmen after the council meeting in Dutse, yesterday.

He said the monthly capitation for enrolees in both the formal sector (217,134 people) and J-Basic Healthcare Programme (143,500 people) had been raised from N300 to N500 per person.

“Following the successful implementation of J-Basic Healthcare Services for vulnerable citizens, this funding boost will strengthen the administration’s efforts,” Musa said.

He added that the initiative was designed to provide free and accessible healthcare to the poorest and most vulnerable, in line with global best practices for health insurance.

Musa also noted that the programme had been rated as the best in Nigeria so far and government remains committed to sustaining and improving it. NAN
