Yobe Varsity Strike Not Yet Suspended – ASUU Chairman

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Yobe State University chapter said the strike action has not been suspended, as to the state government failed to keep to its promises.

The union, in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Comrade Ahmed Karage, said efforts are being made to resolve the lingering issues with government over the implementation of N70,000 minimum wage.

According to the statement, other unaddressed demands include implementation of academic staff promotion as approved by the university council.

It added that the payment of promotion arrears (2018 to 2025), consequential adjustment of (2019-2024), 35-25 percent salary award of 2023 for professors and other ranks (2023-2025) and arrears of N70,000 minimum wage from January 2024 to June are still being discussed.

The chairman informed that as soon as a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, is signed with the state government, the strike would be called off.

AljazirahNigerian learnt that academic staff of the institution went on strike with the aim of getting the best resources for training, teaching, research and better welfare for their members from the state government.
