The Benue State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, has approved the immediate dissolution and reconstitution of the Board of the Sports Associations in the Benue State Sports Council.
Anthony Torbunde,the acting Director of Sports announced Government decision yesterday in Makurdi decision in a statement.
According to Torbundeh, the dissolution was deemed expedient to enable the State Sports Council to align with the subsequent National Sports Commission/Federation elective congress timelines.
He said the move is aimed at ensuring that the Benue State Sports Council is in sync with national sports developments.
The acting Director of Sports said Management of the Sports Council has expressed gratitude to all the Chairmen and Members of the various Sports Associations for their enormous contributions towards the sustenance of their respective sports.
He equally reminded the outgoing board members that the job of developing sports in the state is a collective responsibility and urged them to remain resolute and ready to serve the state at all times in whatever capacity.
Torbunde who noted that the reconstitution of the Board is expected to usher in a new era for sports in Benue State, with the new board members working towards advancing the state’s sports development agenda, described the move as a positive step towards aligning the state’s sports administration with national standards and timelines.
