From Rabilu, Abubakar Gombe
Gombe State High Court 3 has sentenced three men to death by hanging for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
Presiding over the case, Justice Haruna Kereng found Dauda Mohammed Abubakar (Agenda), Kabiru Abubakar (Gwarei) and Ibrahim Suleiman guilty on all counts related to the killing of Ibrahim Yahaya in Herwagana Quarters of Gombe Local Government Area on April 22, 2022.
The court heard that the trio, armed with dangerous weapons including cutlasses and daggers, attacked the victim and inflicted grievous injuries on two others—Ahmed Abubakar and Muhammad Ahmed Lawan—during the same incident.
The case, which began with their arraignment on November 17, 2022, ended on Wednesday, July 24. Justice Kereng ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, citing Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code which prescribed death for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
In delivering judgment, Justice Kereng stated: “Each and all of you shall be hanged by the neck until you are pronounced and certified dead by a medical practitioner.”
He added that the court had no discretion to reduce the sentence and thus did not entertain pleas for leniency.
