Coalition: Ex-Adamawa Gov’s Wife Urges Women, Youths To Embrace Politics

From HASSAN JIRGI, Damaturu

Wife of a former governor of Adamawa State, Dr Zainab Haruna has called on women and youths to get involved in African Democratic Congress, ADC, to change the dynamics and achieve democratic governance in the country in 2027.

Mrs Haruna made the call in Potiskum when she hosted women and youths, following her decision to provide support for  former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The former first lady said she decided to join the ADC after consultation with all stakeholders in the state.

According to her, getting involved in politics would help women mobilise the political will and resources to address existential issues faced by them in the society

“I have decided to progressively move to ADC after concluding consultations. I have today changed my political affiliation, but I will continue to hold on to my moral values,” she said, while promising that she would work to unite the party in the state.

She tasked women and youths to participate in active politics to end the present economic hardship facing the country.

According to her, women have good leadership qualities that will return peace and economic development to the country.

“The era is gone when politics is seen as a dirty game or men-only affairs. Women can change the dynamics, we certainly can, so that we can be actively involved in key decisions that affect us.

“But they are afraid to compete with men in the field of politics and this is why I am using this opportunity to urge my fellow women to come out and be positive in this democratic dispensation.

“We have a big role to play in addressing our problems and achieving the desired results. We cannot play that role if we do not get involved in politics.”

Emphasising the need for women and youths to take active roles in ADC, she warned that the party cannot afford to lose to the opposition party in the forthcoming general election.
