Federal government yesterday held a Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in honour of late former President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
The expanded FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu, is part of a series of national mourning activities approved by President Bola Tinubu, following Buhari’s passing.
According to a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Rabiu Ibrahim, the special FEC session held at5pm at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“As part of the special mourning activities approved by President Tinubu, an expanded special session of the Federal Executive Council in honour of the late former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Thursday, at 5pm at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja,” the statement read.
“The Special FEC meeting will be held after the third day prayer for the late former president at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, with the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, leading a delegation of the federal government, comprising cabinet ministers, for the prayers,” it added.
The statement also disclosed that the expanded FEC meeting would have in attendance key national figures, including the leadership of the National Assembly – both the Senate and the House of Representatives – members of the judiciary, and representatives of the late former president’s family.
Government also scheduled interfaith prayer sessions in honour of the deceased former president, with a special prayer session scheduled at the National Mosque on today and a special church service on Sunday, July 20.
Buhari, who served as military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, passed away at a London hospital on Sunday, July 13 at the age of 82.
