Six individuals suspected to be involved in the recent kidnapping of a petrol dealer, Alhaji Abbas and his manager, Abubakar Issa in Lafiagi area have been apprehended.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, announced this at a press briefing on the breakthroughs recorded by the state police command on Friday.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat the rampant abduction crisis plaguing communities in Patigi and Edu Local Governments in Kwara North Senatorial District.

According to the police commissioner, “During the course of investigation, security operatives successfully recovered two firearms from the suspects.”

The seizure indicates the level of armament wielded by criminal gangs operating in the state, which has been a major concern for communities and local vigilantes.

The arrest came amidst heightened security fear in Kwara North, an area that has witnessed a series of violent incidents including abductions, cattle rustling and attacks on villages.

Residents and community leaders have consistently called for decisive action from law enforcement agencies to curb the activities of these criminal elements.

CP Ojo’s announcement underscores the commitment of the police to track down and neutralise those responsible for insecurity.
