Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB, has mapped out strategies to revitalise primary education so as to enhance the quality of education, job training for teachers and promote youth entrepreneurship.
Permanent Member Four of the Board and Jakada Borgu, Abdulrazak Jikantoro stated this while inaugurating Jakada Youth Vanguard.
He said the gesture is aimed at engaging youths in meaningful ventures to enable them become self-reliant and be abreast with the plight of primary school teachers.
Jikantoro said the new management of the board is striving hard to restructure and overhaul the primary education system, noting that the challenges are enormous, but will be tackled squarely.
He noted that since the SUBEB Chairman, Alhaji Baba Ahmed assumed office, he has left no stone unturned in restoring the lost glory of primary school teachers.
“Part of the steps taken is to assess and evaluate the problems in the state and create a conducive learning environment for youths to be equipped on the challenges ahead with a view to making them self sustainable.”
Jikantoro emphasized that the current team in SUBEB is determined to change the narrative by improving infrastructure, providing the necessary teaching and learning materials, and enhance teachers welfare.
He explained that in addition to Governor Umaru Bago’s dedication to primary education, the welfare of teachers will be paramount, as government will soon commence the payment of 7.5 percent owed teachers.
In his address, President of the association, Comrade Awall Musa described the patron as a philanthropist and God fearing individual whose gestures are worthy of emulation and thanked him for his financial support to the association.
Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Suleiman Yerima commended the Jakada of Borgu for his foresight in ensuring that Borgu communities benefit from the educational programmes of Governor Bago.Â
He, however, expressed gratitude to the SUBEB member for his support in ensuring that the 135 newly appointed teachers by the council chairman, Suleiman Yerima, are recognised.
