With just seven days to the commencement of the highly anticipated CAA African U18/U20 Athletics Championships, activity is already picking up across major Nigerian airports, signaling the early buzz surrounding the continental event.
Top African athletics powerhouses—South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda—have confirmed their arrival dates and final team rosters, further fueling anticipation ahead of the championships.
South Africa is expected to arrive with one of the largest contingents, consisting of 42 male athletes, 40 female athletes, and 18 officials, bringing their total delegation to 100. Kenya will be represented by 25 male and 25 female athletes, along with 17 officials, totaling 67 participants.
Ethiopia is also sending a strong team of 30 male athletes, 27 female athletes, and 12 officials, amounting to a 69-member delegation. Uganda, known for its growing athletics pedigree, will participate with 9 male athletes, 13 female athletes, and 6 officials, for a total of 28 representatives.
The MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta is set to host over 900 athletes and officials from more than 40 countries, making this edition one of the largest youth athletics gatherings on the continent in recent memory.
