Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate in 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, has declared his ambition to join the 2027 presidential race and outlined three priorities for his first 100 days in office: security, education, and poverty reduction.
Obi, who spoke while speaking during a Space session on X, tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, also said that he is open to coalition agreement which could require that if elected he serves a single term and hand over to a successor from the North in 2031.
In this vein, he said that “If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031 — not even May 29″, pointing out that “I am not desperate to be president”.
According to him, the main attraction for seeking the number one job in Nigeria is to put the country back on track again.
AljazirahNigeria reports that the session which took place on Sunday night attracted over 10,000 live participants and almost 3,000 audience comments.
Upholding zoning and respecting any agreement within the coalition reflects political maturity, the presidential hopeful stated.
In another development, a statement released yesterday by Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach, Obi dismissed claims of a possible joint ticket with presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election and onetime Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
“If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, how to revive our economy, how to make our industries productive, how to put food on the tables of Nigerians, Count me out. Nigeria is currently at war. We need to do something about it”, Obi said.
The LP chieftain further said that he “will bring stability in Nigeria within two years in office. Leaders of Nigeria should sit down in Nigeria and fix Nigeria”.
Commenting on power rotation, he stated, “I believe in the rotation of government between North and South. I implemented it in Anambra as a governor”.
“We will do things differently in 2027. We will follow a non-violent approach and insist that the right thing will be done before the result announcement in Abuja. Our votes in 2027 will count, and we will ensure they count”, he said.
