Bauchi: 288 Suspects Arrested, 2.7 Tons Of Illicit Drugs Seized In 1 Year – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) command in Bauchi State says 288 suspects of drug related offense were arrested and 2.7 tons of various drugs seized between July, 2023 to June, 2024 in the State

The State Commander, Mr Ali Aminu stated this at a news conference to commemorate, 2024 International day against drugs abuse and illicit trafficking, June 26, on Wednesday in Bauchi.

According to him, the State Command has arrested Two Hundred and Eighty Eight (288) drug suspects with a grand total of 2.7 tons of various drugs.

“That includes cannabis sativa popularly known as Wee-wee, Diazepam, Exol-5. Pentazocine, Methamphetamine, Rohypnol and Tramadol) were seized from July, 2023-June, 2024,” he said.

Aminu further said that sixty suspects have successfully been prosecuted and fifty one pending cases at Federal High Court, Bauchi .

“While thirty five clients or drug users had been counseled and rehabilitated, majority of them through brief interventions in NDLEA Custody in the State,” the Commander said

Aminu however warned the general public to stop indulging in the illicit use and trafficking of Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

The Narcotics Commander however warned that anyone arrested with hard drugs would definitely be prosecuted.

He commended sister agencies in their tireless efforts to assist in apprehending drug dealers. He further enjoined them to always liaise with the Agency in curbing the drug menace in the State.

Aminu appreciated the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig.Gen. Buba Marwa retired for repositioning the Agency and bringing in a new zeal into the Personnel to fight the scourge of illicit drug abuse and trafficking in the country.

He also commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his keen interest and immense logistics support rendered to the State Command towards eradicating illicit drug abuse and trafficking.
