W’Bank Urges Nigerian Cooperatives To Embrace Technology, Regulatory Reforms

World Bank has called on cooperative societies and regulators in Nigeria to address issues related to technology and regulations to align with global cooperative trends. According to Dave Grace, World Bank Lead Speaker, cooperatives in Nigeria can drive the economy and thrive with the adoption of technology.

The Executive Secretary of the National Cooperative Financing Agency of Nigeria ,CFAN, Emmanuel Atama, noted that the conference aimed to discuss ways to make cooperatives in the country conform to global best practices and ensure financial inclusion services to the grassroots. He highlighted the need to bridge gaps in information, technology, and regulatory issues.

The conference, themed “Repositioning Cooperatives to Deliver on Inclusive Growth and Development”, brought together cooperative officials from different states to discuss the way forward. The President of CFAN, Alhaji Muhammed Zakari, emphasized the importance of accountability and compliance with regulations for cooperatives to achieve their objectives.

The Federal Director of Cooperatives, Alhaji Idris Sani, reaffirmed the collective commitment to the growth, sustainability, and integrity of the cooperative sector in the country. The conference provided a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership building to address challenges and enhance compliance, innovation, and sectorial growth.
