JUST IN: EFCC to Question Tompolo Over Alleged Naira Abuse

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it will question former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, over alleged misuse of the naira.

In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the anti-corruption agency emphasized that no individual is exempt from the law.

“Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer!” the post read, accompanied by an image capturing the alleged incident.

The situation gained attention after a video circulated online on Sunday, posted by user Harrison A, known as #harreceipts on X.com. The video, reportedly recorded during Tompolo’s 54th birthday celebration in April, shows him dancing while someone sprays ₦1,000 notes in front of him.

The footage triggered criticism and calls for action, with many users accusing the EFCC of favoring the elite and targeting only certain individuals.

One user, #NejeebBello, questioned why others who have committed similar acts, including high-profile individuals, remain untouched. Others echoed the sentiment, labeling the agency as selective in its enforcement.

Previously, the EFCC has acted against public figures like E-Money, Iyabo Ojo, and Ayo Makun over similar offences involving currency spraying.
