Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed strong disapproval of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for detaining Muhammad Kazaure, a former House of Representatives member.
Posting on his official X account, Atiku called the detention a “brazen disregard for due process,” accusing the EFCC of repeatedly acting unlawfully by detaining citizens without explanation.
He referenced the recent arrest of social media personality VeryDarkMan, who was only released after widespread public outcry, as a similar case of abuse.
Atiku stated, “Now, the EFCC has targeted Hon. Muhammad Kazaure… abducted in Kano and whisked away to Abuja, Kazaure is presently being held incommunicado.”
He argued that even in cases where arrests are justified, legal procedures must be followed, including publicly stating the grounds for detention and either charging the individual or releasing them without delay.
He also alleged that Kazaure’s arrest may be tied to his vocal criticism of the Tinubu administration, adding, “The Nigerian people are watching. And history will not forget.”
