Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lambasted the Minister of Works, David Umahi, over his recent comment that no opposition party exists in Ebonyi State, stressing that it was deceitful and misleading the public.
In a statement issued by the party’s state chairman, Mr Onyemaechi Nwele, it maintained that it remained a formidable opposition force in the state, with a lucid vision and strategic blueprint to regain its stronghold in the state.
“I feel compelled to address recent pronouncements by Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the erstwhile governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister for Works.
“Umahi claimed that there is no political opposition in the state, portraying the situation as propitious for the incumbent governor, Francis Nwifuru, attributing the absence of opposition to the defection of erstwhile adversaries to the ruling party, APC”.
“Such assertions are not only misleading but are crafted with the intent to deceive the public. The PDP remains a formidable opposition force in Ebonyi State, with a lucid vision and strategic blueprint to reinvigorate our presence at the state echelon.
“Our ambition is to reclaim the governorship and secure a majority in legislative positions through democratic processes”, he stated.
Nwele noted that Umahi was only talking to reconcile with the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, and safeguard his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“PDP does not engage in political machinations with Engr. Umahi, who seems eager to reconcile with the governor, perhaps anticipating political headwinds at the federal level under President Tinubu.
“His motivations are clear, as he seeks to safeguard his political clout should future opportunities for a senatorial seat emerge”, the PDP chieftain said.
He further called on the public, especially the teeming members of the PDP in the state to disregard the outburst of the former governor, stressing that the PDP would defeat the ruling APC in the state in 2027.
