Amid political crisis in Rivers State, a Coalition of women groups yesterday stormed the streets of Port Harcourt, the state capital in support of the emergency rule.
AljazirahNigeria reports President Bola Tinubu had on March 18 declared the emergency rule saying that
“With the crisis persisting, there is no way democratic governance, which we have all fought and worked for over the years, can thrive in a way that will redound to the benefit of the good people of the state. The state has been at a standstill since the crisis started, with the good people of the state not being able to have access to the dividends of democracy”.
The women dressed in white marched from the Garrison Flyover to the Isaac Boro Cark and were seen carrying placards with inscriptions such as “State of Emergency is Constitutional”, “We Don’t Want Fubara”, among others.
Erstwhile Commissioner for Social Welfare in in the state, Ifeyinwa Aguma, led the protesters who threw their weight behind the Sole Administrator of the state, for Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ette Ibas.
It would be recalled that last week a group of women demonstrated against emergency rule and in solidarity with the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The emergency rule also sweet away Rivers State Deputy Governor , Ngozi Odu, and the members of the House of Assembly for a period six months.
