BREAKING: Supreme Court Sacks Abure As Labour Party National Chairman

By Uche Onyeali

Supreme Court on Friday sacked Julius Abure as National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP.

A five-member panel of the apex court in a unanimous verdict overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had previously affirmed Abure as the party’s national chairman.

In its ruling on Friday, the Supreme Court stated that the appellate court lacked the authority to make such a ruling, as the case primarily concerned the party’s internal leadership.

It further emphasised that issues related to party leadership are internal matters that fall outside the judiciary’s jurisdiction.
The apex court also ruled in favour of the appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another.

The apex court also noted that, based on the evidence presented before it, Abure’s tenure had already ended.
It, therefore, dismissed the cross-appeal submitted by Abure’s faction of the Labour Party.
