The leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has lifted the constitutional waiver of membership of its party, saying that new entrants to the party do not need to serve two years to qualify to contest election or hold party office.

This is even as the party declared that the former presidential candidate of the Labour party in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi and other notable politicians across the country were welcomed to the party.

It further emphasized that politicians with good quality and zero corruption will be absorbed in the party.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s 97th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting at the party secretariat, National Chairman, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu said the party is been repositioned adding that it is in alliance talks with other parties and civil societies to rescue power from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC .

Nwosu said ” One of the resolutions is that we want to make the handshake across Nigeria a national ritual by October 1st , that national ritual will take place in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Secondly, one of our guideline is that you can’t contest election in ADC, you must serve the party for two years , but because people are saying allow us work with the party, we have to open up by waving the two years for contesting election, if you join ADC today , you are free for contesting election or holding party office, so you don’t have to stay for two years , we are passing that resolution .

“We, also contemplate having a National convention , some of us examplified by my good self will not contest for national chairman again , I don’t intend to run, I want to hand over to Nigerians who will mobilize over 80 million people.

We want to approach the next political season with ordinary Nigerians with good quality and zero corruption.

“I have not seen Mr Peter Obi for the past one year , we couldn’t be talking , but if he decides after seeing what we are doing to join us in ADC , and say enough is enough, we will open our hand and absorb him , they are welcome, the door is open .

” We are meeting with People Redemption Party, PRP , and continued talks with civil society organisations. This rituals of looking Nigerians in the face and say enough is enough, we beg Nigerians to accept them”

The party equally asked president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately reverse the declaration of state of emergency in oil rich Rivers State and restore Similayi Fubara as governor and other democratic institutions in the state.
