House of Representatives has called on the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Olufemi Oluyede and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun to immediately deploy armed personnel along Aba, Owerri, Enugu and Kogi roads to address the incessant security challenges.
This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved during plenary Tuesday by the member representing Idah/Ibaji/Igalamela Federal Constituency of Kogi State, David Zacharias.
In his lead debate, the lawmaker maintained that it is the responsibility of government to protect the lives and property of the people.
Zacharias, therefore, called on the chief of army staff to also provide military checkpoints on the roads to prevent kidnappings, armed robberies, among other crimes.
The lawmaker equally informed his colleagues that on Sunday, March 16, 18 passengers travelling from the South East to Abuja were all kidnapped along Enugu-Abuja road.
In another motion of urgent national importance, the member representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency of Imo State, Matthew Nwogu raised alarm over incessant cases of banditry on Aba-Owerri road.
The lawmaker condemned the killings along major roads, especially at Ngor Okpala axis, calling on the IGP to rise up and address the problem.
They also urged the police boss to ensure heavy presence of armed personnel to contain killings on major roads.
