Most Reverend Chikwendu Igwe has emerged Bishop of Methodist Archdiocese of Ebonyi State.
This followed the inauguration of the new archdiocese by the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Oliver Ali Aba, at the Methodist Cathedral, Abakaliki.
In a message at the occasion, Governor Francis Nwifuru said Methodist Church had been a vital partner in the collective efforts to build a better Ebonyi State.
He called on the archbishop to work assiduously to maintain high standard and prosper the church.
“To our dear pioneer Archbishop Chikwendu Igwe, I extend my heartfelt congratulations. Your Grace, this elevation is not just an honor, but another higher level of divine assignment in the Lord’s Vineyard.
“It is a call to greater service, a responsibility that requires deep wisdom, humility and dedication to the work of God who called you to serve him in this position and capacity,” the governor said.
According to Nwifuru, Methodist Church, like others who are still holding tenaciously to the teachings of Christ, has always played a critical role in shaping the society.
“It has been a source of moral guidance, a promoter of peace and a defender of truth and justice.
“In times of crisis, the church has provided comfort, in times of uncertainty, it has offered direction,” the governor said.
He assured that his administration would continue to work closely with the church to promote peace, good governance and social justice.
