The Young Progressives Party, YPP, has called on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, to provide concrete evidence to back his claims that opposition leaders were being paid N50m each by President Bola Tinubu’s government.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins, made available to AljazirahNigeria, the political party described the allegations as frivolous and unfounded, adding that it was “a desperate attempt to heat up the polity.”
“As a party committed to social democracy and good governance, we believe that such blanket accusations without evidence are not only unbecoming but also damaging to our democratic process. It is imperative that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar provides concrete evidence to support his claims, as he who alleges must prove,
“Furthermore, we challenge Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to mention the specific political parties allegedly involved in this inducement. It is unacceptable to make sweeping accusations without facts, and we will not stand idly by while our party’s integrity is impugned,” the party said.
Having lost an election, the YPP said it was time for Atiku Abubakar to reflect on his campaign strategies “rather than resorting to cheap blackmail.”
The progressives party said that unlike the peoples democratic party, “which has a history of legalized corruption, monetized politics, and merchandising the polity during its 16-year reign, the YPP will not engage in such unwholesome practices.”
It therefore urged the general public to disregard the accusations and focus on constructive dialogue that promotes Nigeria’s growth and development.
