Delta State government has earmarked N1.3 billion as counterpart funding for erosion control in Okpanam community in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
This was disclosed by the member representing Oshimili North State Constituency, Frank Esenwa.
The villages where the gully erosion had caused damages are Amachai, Ogbeozoma, Ogbe Ojie and Vanguard area.
Esenwa made the disclosure in Okpanam during the maiden edition of Okpanam Heritage Day.
He noted that Okpanam is a cosmopolitan society and that strangers help in the overall development of any town.
He also explained that he had brought 400 street lights which would soon be deployed to the community.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Okpanam, Dr Michael Ogbolu said the community organised the Heritage Day not only to showcase its rich cultural heritage, but to prove to the world that the community is accommodating to strangers.
He commended the organisers, especially the President-General of Okpanam Youth Organisation, Comrade Lucky Okolo, President-General of Okpanam Community Development Union, Mr Robert Ogonenwe and others for their efforts in showcasing the community and urged youths to think of genuine skills to learn.
