Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Ebonyi State chapter has blamed some of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s appointees for poor performance and called for the reshuffling of the cabinet.
In a communique issued at the end of this year’s media engagement, IPAC maintained that the engagement was aimed at accessing the 19 months of Governor Nwifuru’s administration, adding that it is also to provide a comprehensive overview of his performance, address concerns and offer
constructive recommendations.
The State IPAC Chairman, Comrade Nasir Nwaze, who read the communique on behalf of the council, expressed concern that some of the governor’s appointees are not doing enough to guarantee their continued stay in office.
They called on Governor Nwifuru to ensure effective supervision of his appointees, as some of them were either being overwhelmed by the responsibilities of their office or that they lack the capacity required for holding such office.
“This is for transparency in governance and accountability in the management of public resources. We also call for the establishment of independent oversight bodies to monitor the implementation of projects and policies.
“IPAC observed a slow pace of work on vanco flyover, some capital city streets, the two kilometer roads and even some of the state government’s house scheme construction and rehabilitation projects.
“IPAC observed that some of the appointees are not doing enough in carrying out their duties. We recommend that the governor should urgently reshuffle or outrightly dissolve his cabinet and select competent professionals that will be more diligent in implementing policies and programmes under better supervision.
“It observed that the 2024 budget implementation has an excellent rating. However, there is still room for improvement,” the IPAC chairman said.
The council, however, commended the governor for his people’s charter of needs programmes, as its positive impact radiates round Ebonyi State, adding that there is the need for more comprehensive investigation into the implementation of the empowerment schemes that are targeted at the most vulnerable segments of the society, including rural communities.
It also urged the present administration to put more efforts in the effective supervision of its projects to ensure the judicious use of public resources.
The group commended the governor for his numerous achievements in his 19 months in office, adding that they will remain committed in collaborating with government and all stakeholders to ensure that the state’s future is prosperous, secure and inclusive for all.
