Gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Mohammed El Kabir has called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to as a matter of urgency commence payment of the new minimum wage to the civil servants, in order to bring succour to them from the current hardship in the country.
Dr. El Kabir, who is an estate developer, made the call during an interview with journalists in Keffi, Nasarawa State, yesterday.
According to him, Governor Sule in his capacity as the chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, ought to have been amongst the first governors to have commenced payment of the new minimum wage to civil servants in the state.
“We want Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the executive governor of Nasarawa State, to quickly adhere to his earlier promise in the said regards as being done by his other colleagues who have already commenced the payment of the new minimum wage in their respective states as is being directed, enshrined and agreed by the labour union and the federal government.
“I am advising Governor Sule to look at the situations of the Nasarawa State civil servants where their condition is deteriorating by the day and making them passing through hardships,” he said.
The governorship aspirant said some state governors had not only commenced the payment of the new minimum wage, but had also gone ahead to pay salary arrears in that direction.
El-Kabir, who was the senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in the 2023 general elections, described Nasarawa State as a civil service state due to lack of other meaningful means of livelihoods, saying that monthly salaries is what the civil servants depend on.
“As part of my political promises, welfarism to civil servants is one of my priorities, but my advice to the state’s civil servants is that they should remain calm and focus because we are on top of the situation.
“By the grace of God, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi Sule will definitely adhere to our advice. I am calling on His Excellency to adhere to his promises of implementing the N70,000 new minimum wage to our state civil servants,” he advised.
