Dep Gov’s Forum Seeks Establishment of State Economic Council

Forum of former Deputy Governor’s of Nigeria , (FFDGN) has urged the National Assembly to pass the bill on State Economic Council to address the problem of abandoned projects in various state in of the federation.

The forum which decried the spate of abandoned projects in the states, said such economic council will stop the trajectory of discontinuing projects by successive governments .

It argued that government is a continuous process and projects initiated by a governor be completed by their successors rather than abandoning it out right .

Addressing participants in this year’s National Conference in Abuja with the theme “Strategic Solutions for good governance, food security and sustainable growth in Nigeria” National Chairman of the Forum and former Deputy governor of Abia State, Dr Chris .A. AKomas noted that there was need for the National Assembly to listen to suggestions made by the forum to strengthen good governance by passing the bill on State economic council.

He said ” We sent a number of suggestions to the National Assembly. We have suggestions on how new projects can be completed. We should have a state economic council, governors aboundon projects by their predessesors , this shouldn’t be, with state economic council it will help developing the state, it is one good thing to be done”

Dr AKomas hinted that the forum is in partnership with the Polish Nigeria Business Council to promote good governance in Nigeria.

” In our quest for sustainable growth, we recognize the importance of collaboration beyond our borders. Our partnership with nations across Africa hence the Polish Nigeria Business Council will be pivotal in sharing knowledge and expertise. We believe that the robust alliance will enable us to tackle the challenge of governance”

Co- Chairman of the conference and former governor of Ogun state, Chief Segun Osoba averred that deputy governor’s should have good relationship with the governors to avoid rancour and impeachment, adding that impeachment problem was not a challenge to be resolved by law.

National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress APC, and former Deputy governor and governor of Kano state, Dr Abudullahi Ganduja called for a constitutional amendment to prescribe a specific function for deputy governors.
