North-East Development Commission, NEDC, trained and empowered 455 youths and women on various skills between January and October in Adamawa State.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Mr Mohammed Goni said this yesterday in Yola while presenting starter parks to 40 beneficiaries.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the recent beneficiaries were trained on renewable energy, fabrication of energy efficient stoves for women and briquette production.

According to Goni, the aim of the exercise is to empower beneficiaries and boost human capacity development in the state and region.

Goni, represented by NEDC’s Acting Coordinator in Adamawa, Hajiya Fatima Bakari, urged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge they acquired by making judicious use of the parks.

“We want you to use these equipment judiciously to add value to yourselves and your respective communities.

“You should not sell them off because we want you to apply these skills acquired in order to boost the economy,” he said.

Goni explained that other beneficiaries were trained on climate change adaptation, waste collection and recycling of waste plastic, as well as watershed management.

Chairman, Adamawa Planning Commission, Dr Mary Paninga, said the empowerment was timely.

Paninga, represented by the Principal Planning Officer, Hassana Yakubu, urged the beneficiaries to make efficient use of the starter parks for the betterment of the society.

Muhammad Adamu, one of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of others, expressed appreciation to NEDC and assured the commission that they would make judicious use of the equipment.

He also promised that they would extend their training to non-beneficiaries.

NAN reports that those trained on renewable energy received solar panels and tools boxes, while those trained on briquette production/energy efficient stoves fabrication, received welding, crushing and molding machines among other accessories (NAN)
