Twenty nine people were confirmed dead and 50 rescued in a boat mishap at Gausawa community, Malale area of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
A Statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Mallam Ibrahim Hussaini said the boat took off from a community called Tugan Sule in Shagunu Ward with 90 people on board including women and children heading to Dugga community for a condolence visit.
According to Hussaini the incident occurred yesterday, at about 11:30.am and was attributed to overloading and collision with a stump.
He disclosed that already 29 people have been confirmed dead while 50 persons have been rescued as of the time of filling the report, two people are still missing and search and rescue operations are ongoing for possible recovery of missing persons.
