The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has debunked allegation leveled against him by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde that he single handedly offered to hold People’s Democractic Party (PDP) for President Bola Tinubu when their group known as G5 met with him.
Wike made this clarification during his end- of-year media chat in Port Harcourt on Monday, saying such allegation came from Makinde because President Tinubu did not approve his candidate for a ministerial appointment.
The Minister wondered why the Oyo State Governor could lie so brazenly.
He disclosed that the meeting they held with the President Tinubu in 2024 had nothing to do with PDP but to show support for his leadership.
According to him, his position on supporting Tinubu had never been hidden and did not need a meeting to confess that.
“Seyi said I told Tinubu that I will hold PDP for him. Nothing like that happened.
“Everyone knows my stand on Tinubu, I don’t need a meeting to tell him that.
“As a minister, I have a duty to ensure that members of the G-5 benefitted from the Tinubu administration in one way or the other.”
He said he had not gotten the kind of support Mankinde got from Tinubu, including a N50 billion grant for victims of the January 2024 explosion in Bodija in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Wike maintained that the Oyo governor owed his people a duty to tell them how the money was spent, adding that such money should have been appropriated before spending.
