Wike Commissions 12 Emergency Ambulances

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike has commissioned 12 new ambulances aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery to residents of the territory.

Wike, during the commissioning ceremony in Abuja yesterday, explained that the provision of the new ambulances was part of the FCT Administration’s support to emergency services as it relates to the health system.

While justifying the focus on the provision of infrastructure such as roads in the last two years, he said such steps have multiple effects on other sectors.

‎According to him, “So many people were saying, why are we concentrating on road infrastructure? So many people were saying, why are we focusing on education? But people forget that these ambulances may break down when there are no good roads.”

Commenting on the recent strike by staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, the minister expressed appreciation to medical personnel for their understanding during the period.

“Nobody went on strike. Even though those debts were being owed, but we were able to pay off the debts. I have said that every sector will be looked into.

“What is important is that you are focused, are you doing your best? When you leave office, another person will continue from where you stopped,” Wike said.

On lack of adequate medical personnel, the minister disclosed that a directive has been given for the employment of more personnel.

Earlier, the Mandate Secretary, FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Dolapo Fasawe thanked the minister for the provision of fully equipped new ambulances, saying it reflects the administration’s commitment to people-centred governance.
