Team Nigeria athletes have pledged to give their very best and make the country proud at the forthcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The athletes, including the world’s second-fastest man, Kanyinsola Ajayi, sprint star Rosemary Chukwuma, and athlete Miracle Ezechukwu, gave the assurance on Friday during the media briefing on the Commonwealth Games broadcast plans held at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Speaking at the event Kanyinsola Ajayi expressed confidence that Team Nigeria would deliver exciting performances in Glasgow.
“We are going there to give our best. Nigerians should expect exciting and elite performances from Team Nigeria. It is going to be fun, and we hope everyone will support us and follow our journey. We are ready to make the country proud,” Ajayi said.
In her remarked Miracle Ezechukwu thanked the National Sports Commission for its continued support of the athletes.
“We sincerely appreciate the efforts and support the NSC has given us. It means a lot to us as athletes, and we are grateful,” she said.
As for Rosemary Chukwuma expressed appreciation for the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games, assuring Nigerians that the team would compete with determination.
“We thank everyone for giving us this opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games. We believe we are ready, and we will give everything we have to make our country proud,” Chukwuma said.
The athletes’ remarks echoed the confidence within Team Nigeria as preparations enter the final phase ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where they will be aiming to deliver outstanding performances and inspire millions of Nigerians at home and abroad.
Speaking at the event, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring Nigerians can follow Team Nigeria’s journey through extensive television and digital coverage.
Olopade urged the athletes to approach the Games with confidence and ambition, challenging them to aim beyond medals.
“I have told the athletes to go out there and compete for Nigeria. They should not just aim to win medals; they should aim to break world records. This is another step in our preparation towards the 2028 Olympic Games,” he said.
