Sokoto State government spent billions of naira on the maintenance of security facilities.
Special Adviser on Security Matters, Colonel Ahmad Usman (rtd) stated this during the one year Ministerial Score Card of Governor Ahmad Aliyu jointly organised by the Ministry of Information and Orientation and that of Innovation and Digital Economy.
He said a lot has been achieved towards curtailing the menace of banditry, kidnapping and other vices.
In that order, the retired Colonel affirmed that about 110 vehicles were distributed to security agencies, while 750 motorcycles were given to Community Guards to ease transportation to areas where insecurity is rampant.
He said with the assistance and gesture coupled with other financial assistance, the state is presently experiencing peace and farming activities are peacefully ongoing statewide.
He said Sokoto Community Guards Corps will work with conventional security agencies to safeguard their respective communities.
The local governments are Binji, Gada, Goronyo, Gudu, Gwadabawa, Illela, Isa and Kebbe.
Others are Rabah, Sabon Birni, Tureta and Wurno.
He also affirmed that the state government has provided state headquarters and divisional offices for Sokoto Community Guards in the 13 affected local government areas including foodstuffs, cash and other materials to the rescued victims.
Usman confirmed that the synergy adopted has reduced banditry and very soon, Sokoto State would be free of these vices.
Commissioner for Information, Sambo Danchadi and other speakers attributed the success of reducing banditry to the governor’s commitment and the experience of his aides.
