Reps Committee Promises Weekly Consideration, Presentation of Public Petitions’ Report

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus La’ori presented five (5) reports during the plenary session on Wednesday.

Hon. La’ori who had penultimate week presented some of the reports of his committee to the House, promised to speedily consider petitions being referred to his committee and lay them at least every week when the House is on session.

One of the five (5) reports include the report on petition by Hon. (Prof)
Paul Sunday Nnamchi on behalf of members of Gutenberg Print Professionals Association of Nigeria
(GUPPAN) against some Groups working against the Implementation of the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria Act, 2007 (CIPPON).

The report also include the recommendation on a petition against Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company on behalf of Omole Phase II Community Development Association
(CDA) Lagos State for poor, erratic and Inadequate power supply in Omole Phase II Estate Lagos State.

Petition by Ayia, Ayia
George & Co. on behalf of Messrs. Habinda Nigeria Limited against the Benue State Government and the
Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on allegation of trespass and land grabbing of plot land at Adaka along Makurdi- Naka Road Housing was also laid.

Report of the Committee on Public Petitions on the petition by Ogehenero
Okoro and Co. against Seplat Energy Plc for gross marginalisation and wrongfully naming of the oil wells in Boboroku Community of Delta State after Orogho Community in Edo State and ascribing
ownership of the land to Orogho Community was among the reports laid on Wednesday.

Report of the Committee on the petition by Mrs. Nwosu Cynthia Chinonyerem against the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency
(NIMASA) over her unlawful dismissal was equally laid in the House during plenary session.

Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus La’ori assumed chairmanship of the committee on May 13, 2025 and since then the House has been getting steady reports from its Committee on Public Petitions.

According to analysis of report submission from the committee, since the inauguration of the committee in June 2023, a total of fifteen (15) reports were laid before the House in February 2024 while five (5) of them were considered in May 2024.

However, since Laori took over in May, 2025, a total of 20 reports had so far been laid while 5 of them had been considered and adopted by the House.

La’ori had stated that the speedy consideration of petitions under his leadership is to ensure the committee’s unwavering commitment so that all petitions are handled fairly, transparently, and without unnecessary delays..
