The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched a coordinated operation to rescue two students of the Federal University of Lafia who remain in captivity after being abducted by suspected kidnappers, while one victim has already been rescued.
According to the Command, the abduction occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at about 9:20 p.m. after armed men reportedly invaded Living Seed Lodge, a student residence situated in a bushy area on the outskirts of the university community.
The incident was reported to the police by the Chief Security Officer of the Federal University of Lafia, prompting an immediate security response.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Rahman Nansel, said Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed directed the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol operatives and other security personnel to the scene.
According to the statement, security operatives swiftly mobilised and commenced a coordinated search-and-rescue operation across the surrounding forest in an effort to locate the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
The police confirmed that the operation has already resulted in the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.
The statement said, “The prompt response of the police led to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students. Efforts have since been intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining two victims still in captivity and the arrest of the perpetrators.”
Nansel further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has directed all operational and intelligence units of the Command to sustain the rescue operation until the remaining victims are freed safely.
He assured residents that the police would continue pursuing the suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid the ongoing operation.
Residents were further advised to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station to assist security efforts.
