Kaduna State Police Command has announced the neutralisation of two armed robbery suspects and the arrest of two others during an operation in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the military and other security agencies.
Hassan said at about 03:10 hours, the police received a distress call from residents of Gashash Estate, Barnawa of an invasion by about eight armed hoodlums.
The suspects, armed with locally made pistols and other dangerous weapons, robbed occupants of various valuable items, including phones, laptops, wristwatches, gaming consoles and jewelry.
“The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Barnawa Division, swiftly mobilised patrol teams who, in conjunction with the military, tracked the suspects down to Makera Main Road in Kakuri. A fierce gun duel ensued, resulting in the neutralisation of two armed robbers, while two others were arrested.
“The operatives recovered one locally made pistol, ammunition, several dangerous weapons, stolen items, including seven mobile phones, three wrist watches, two laptops, two playstation gaming consoles and assorted jewelry.
“The police are working to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. Unfortunately, one police officer was wounded during the operation and is currently receiving treatment,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad commended the swift response and collaboration between the police and the military.
He also lauded the support from the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies in crime prevention.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintain peace and security across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant.
