Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested officers captured in a viral video assaulting a tricycle (keke) rider.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Muhammad, the officers involved in the incident are currently undergoing internal disciplinary processes in line with the Police Act and other extant regulations.
“The attention of the Bayelsa State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video allegedly showing police officers assaulting a tricycle driver,” the statement said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Edebor condemned the conduct of the officers as unprofessional and inconsistent with the ethics and values of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command said it does not condone brutality or any form of human rights abuse, stressing that the actions displayed in the video violate established policing standards.
Edebor reassured residents of Bayelsa State of the command’s commitment to professional policing, accountability and the protection of the rights and safety of all citizens.
The statement added that appropriate sanctions would be applied at the conclusion of the disciplinary process, as the command continues efforts to uphold public confidence in the police.
