Yobe State Police Command has arrested Mrs Umar Abubakar, 24, and Abdulaziz Mohammad, 25, from Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State for ATM card fraud in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement Thursday, said the command recorded significant success in the fight against fraud and related offences, following credible intelligence by the State Intelligence Department, SID.
According to him, the suspects specialised in defrauding unsuspecting victims at ATM galleries by pretending to assist customers and swapping or cloning cards to withdraw money.
They were arrested while perpetrating the act at Fidelity Bank ATM gallery in Damaturu.
In a separate incident, Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters personnel trailed and apprehended Usman Suleman, 25, of Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, a tricycle thief, in Bauchi State en-rout kano State.
He added that the suspect allegedly stole a tricycle while the rider was performing prayer at a mosque near Access Bank in Potiskum.
Both incidents are currently undergoing investigation for subsequent prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado lauded the personnel’s efforts and expressed commitment to sustain the tempo.
He also warned criminal elements to desist, assuring that Yobe State would not be a haven for crime.
The command urged members of the community to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station or security formation.
