Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 28-year-old bank employee, Chidinma Nkemdirim, before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing N6.6 million belonging to FCMB Microfinance Bank, Ketu branch.
Nkemdirim, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing by trick.
According to the charge, the defendant committed the offence between January and July while working at the bank located at No. 454/457 Ikorodu Road, Ketu.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere alleged that Nkemdirim fraudulently converted the said sum, property of her employer, to her personal use.
The prosecutor told the court that the alleged theft was uncovered following an internal audit at the microfinance bank.
She said the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A Owolabi granted the defendant N800,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and who must be gainfully employed and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned until December 1 for further hearing.
