President Bola Tinubu has asked the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang to take decisive action over the recent killing of travellers by a mob in Mangun district in Mangu Local Government Area.

AljazirahNigeria recalls that 12 passengers travelling for a wedding ceremony were killed by a mob who set their bus ablaze on Friday.

The wedding guests were travelling from Zaria, Kaduna, to Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau for the ceremony.

While 12 of the passengers were killed, 11 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

Condemning the incident, President Tinubu in a statement yesterday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Governor Mutfwang must take action and get to the root of the issue.

“The government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence.

“The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences.

“Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,” the president said

He also directed the police to work with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are held accountable.

“The president called for calm, promising not to allow the dastardly act to go unpunished.

“He commiserated with the victims’ families and the people and government of Kaduna State,” the statement said.
