By Mariyah Adamu, Abuja
Fresh crisis is looming in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as an one-time Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, threatened Court action against action against the party, following an alleged denial of the opportunity to buy PDP nomination form to contest for the position of National Chairman.
Lamido, who addressed journalists outside the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, said: “I came here to buy the form for the chairmanship position, but I was denied. This is not the democracy our party stands for. If this continues, I will have no choice but to approach the court for justice”.
According to him the such treatment by the party is “unacceptable and undemocratic”.
AljazirahNigeria recalls that the PDP chieftain had earlier declared his intention to contest for the opposition party’s chairmanship seat ahead of the PDP National Convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Northern leaders in the peoples democratic party had recently endorsed former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as consensus candidate fo national championship position.
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who made the announcement said any aspirant that is not satisfied with the endorsement is free to contest.
Meanwhile, the PDP yesterday said the screening of aspirants for upcoming 2025 Elective National Convention schedules for today will not hold.
Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee, NCOC, and Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, in a statement hinged the postponement on “unforeseen circumstances”.
In this vein, Fintiri said: “A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
“All aspirants and members of our Party should note the foregoing and be guided accordingly”.
