Hardship: Don’t Incite Nigerians Against  Govt, APC Chieftain Urges Politicians

Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress ,APC, in Osun State, has appealed to politicians to guard against utterances that could incite Nigerians into violent protest against the government.

Oyintiloye said that any politicians who might be  hiding under the current temporary hardship in the country to incite the masses against the constituted authorities should be regarded as an enemy of the country.

The APC Cheiftain made the remarks while speaking with newsmen yesterday in Osogbo.

Oyintiloye, a member of the disbanded APC Presidential Campaign Council ,PCC, said that what President Bola Tinubu, needed at this period was prayers and the support of all Nigerians to enable him stabilise the economy for the benefit of the masses.

He said that the economic challenges the country was passing through required the understanding and collaborative approach towards finding lasting solutions to them and not comments that could lead to public unrest.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, who noted that the president is doing everything humanly possible to turn the economy around, says, it would amount to being unpatriotic for anyone, no matter highly placed to incite the masses into protest.

He called on the security agencies to be on alert and ensure that anyone who is attempting to incite the masses will be made to face the law.

“There is no doubt that the economy is not in its best shape, but this is just temporary.

” The President is working assiduously to ensure that the economy is brought back to shape for Nigerians to enjoy.

“While we are waiting for that, I do not think inciting the masses against the government is the best way to go.

“I will strongly advise those politicians who are calling people to protest against the government to desist or be ready to face the law”, he said.

Oyintiloye appealed to Nigerians to be patient, adding that the effect of some of the policies of government may be harsh at the moment, predicting that the outcome would be better for all.

Agency Report

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted drugs valued at N22.7 billion in separate operations at Lagos and Rivers seaports.

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi.

According to Babafemi, drugs seized by the anti-narcotics agency include over 32 million tramadol pills at Lekki Deep Seaport and 1.4 million bottles of codeine syrup at Apapa and Port Harcourt ports, in a major blow to transnational drug cartels.

The combined monetary value of the seized opioids comes to N22,740,958,000.”

He explained that the illicit consignments were seized from containers watch-listed by the NDLEA based on intelligence and processed for 100 percent joint examination with personnel from Nigeria Customs and other security agencies at the three seaports between Monday, October 7, and Friday, October 11.

“Following a fresh wave of interdiction operations targeting transnational drug cartels, operatives of NDLEA at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, also arrested a Thailand returnee, Oguejiofor Nnaemeka Simonpeter, for importing 13.30 kilograms of heroin worth over N3.192 billion.

“Oguejiofor was arrested on Monday, October 7, while attempting to smuggle the illicit drug out of the airport, concealed in six backpacks and packed into two large suitcases.

“The 29-year-old graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli, Anambra State, had left Thailand on October 3 on a Qatar Airways flight and stopped over in Doha where he spent two days before heading to Lagos. His luggage was routed to Accra, Ghana, his original destination.

“After arriving in Lagos on October 5, he contacted the airline to reroute his luggage to Nigeria so that he could pick it up as rush baggage in an attempt to bypass security checks.

“However, NDLEA officers intercepted him at the point of exit,” Babafemi disclosed.

By Caleb Ishaya, Abuja

State Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are set to meet today as crisis threatens doom for the main opposition party in Nigeria.

The governors are expected to explore today’s meeting “to fashion out options to save the party’s soul”, according to multiple sources.

The governors meeting is likely going to have as outcome sack of the National Working Committee, NWC, members by the National Executive Committee, NEC, and the appointment of a caretaker committee to steer affairs of the party until December 2025 when the tenure of the present NWC is supposed to elapse.

The party was factionalised following the suspension of its National Legal Adviser, Adeyemi Ajibade, and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, by a faction of the National Working Committee, NWC, led by the acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, last Friday, after the 593rd meeting of the NWC held a day earlier.

AljazirahNigeria recalls that the fault lines in the PDP widened  when its national leadership split into two factions headed by Yayari Ahmed Mohammed, and PDP acting National Chairman,  Damagum.

Ibrahim Abdullahi and Okechukwu Osuoha were appointed by the faction to replace Mohammed as well as Damagun in capacities.

The PDP had last Friday fixed a NEC meeting for October 24 to elect a substantive national chairman who will complete the tenure of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, while Damagum is expected to revert to his position as National Vice Chairman (North).

However, in a counter statement, National Publicity Secretary, Ologunagba announced the suspension of Damagum and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, by the NWC. This according to insider source was as a result of the rift between the ex-governor of Rivers State and his successor supposed godson and the alleged roles played by Damagun and Anyanwu against the Governor Fubara of Rivers State over the public defecation of 27 lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Damagum was alleged to have gone against the interest of the party by sponsoring a legal representative and wrote a letter against the party at the court of appeal as a result of the party lost out. The National publicity secretary and the legal adviser according to the source raised the issue during the meeting but instead were tagged insubordination thereby suspended . The duo of Legal Adviser and the Publicity secretary also announced the suspension of the Acting Chairman and the Secretary for an alleged Anti-party activities.

Amid the raging crisis Justice Peter Lifu of a Federal High Court, Abuja,  issued a restraining order against Damagum’s removal by the party’s NEC until December 2025. And Ambassador Damagun has since then crisscross the country reaching out to the 13 elected governors under the platform of PDP inorder to save the party from a total collapse.

AljazirahNigeria reports that baring any last minute change, big shots in the PDP will converge in the FCT at the Wadata house to brainstorm a way forward.

Board of Trustees ,BoT, of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the two factions within the party’s National Working Committee ,NWC, to sheath their swords and revert to status quo.

The board made the call in a statement issued by its Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, on Friday in Abuja, as part of its moves to intervene in the ongoing internal crisis within the party’s national leadership.

Wabara called on all sides of the NWC to sheath their swords and de-escalate the tension.

He also called on the warring persons to revert to the status quo to preserve the unity and stability of the party.

“We understand that disagreements may arise but as a party with a long-standing tradition of internal democracy, we must not let these challenges derail our collective vision.

“The BoT will meet with the members of the NWC to intervene, foster reconciliation, and ensure that normalcy is restored in the NWC of our great party.

“We call on all party faithful and supporters to remain calm during this period.

“PDP has an effective conflict resolution mechanism, and we are confident that the current issues will be addressed and resolved in a manner that strengthens the party”, he said.

According to Wabara, BoT remains fully committed to its role of promoting peace, unity, and progress within the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports had earlier reported the worsening crisis within the country’s main opposition party, with the emergence of two factions, each issuing separate statements suspending key officers of the NWC.

A faction of the NWC had, in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba on Friday, suspended the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged anti-party activity.

The faction had also announced Alhaji Yayari Mohammed as the new acting National Chairman of the party.

Meanwhile another faction of the NWC loyal to Damagum also announced the suspension of the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and Ologunagba for alleged disloyalty to the part.

The NWC faction, in a statement by the party’s National Director of Publicity, Pastor Chinwe Nnorom, directed Ologunagba and Kamaldeen Ajibade to step aside.

The faction also constituted a committee to be chaired by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, to investigate the issues raised against the officers in compliance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

“Following the NWC’s decision, it directed their respective deputies to the two suspended national officers to assume office in acting capacity with effect from Friday, pending the conclusion of investigation by the committee.

“The deputies are Ibrahim Manga, acting National Publicity Secretary and Mr Okechukwu Osuoha, acting National Legal Adviser”, Nnorom said.

Dele Alake, The Quintessential Communications Strategist At 68

0

By Kehinde Olaosebikan

Having beautiful women is a way of assessment or a display of wealth by men in the olden days, but not too long-ago, days in the place where I come from. Up till the 60s and 70s in my part of the world, to prove or show that you are rich and have truly arrived, you must have a stunning beautiful woman as a wife or a courtesan.

A Yoruba socialite elite must possess a beautiful woman to accompany him to parties and other social events. The sanmori as they are called, in Yoruba, flaunt their beautiful chicks at gatherings to the admiration of others. They all giggle, laugh, throw banters, hug one another in the display of their mistresses.

However, if there was any who did not attend a function with his beautiful lady or felt that his is not as beautiful as that of a particular friend, such men feel no shame or any embarrassment in demanding from the beautiful side chicks of their friends to get them a similar charmingly beautiful lady to keep or marry. They would simply ask the tempting lady of their friend ‘E ba wa wa eni kan to ri bi yin,’ meaning ‘Kindly find for us, a beautiful lady just like you”.

As the practice later advanced, the elitists graduated from not just having beautiful ladies alone, they added brain and responsibility to the qualities of such ladies. Thus, in addition to having full lips, high forehead, broad face, small chin, small nose, short and narrow jaw, high cheekbones, clear and smooth skin and wide-set eyes, all the assets that make a stunning woman, their ladies must be intelligent and responsible as well.

Late Tatalo Alamu, the Ibadan-based popular Dundun and Sekere Maestro, later promoted this in one of his albums to a means of ‘toasting’ ladies. Tatalo, eyeing one of the delightfully beautiful ladies in the city of Ibadan then, sang ‘E ba un wa obinrin to ri bi yin o, e ba un wa obinrin to ri bi yin; t’o gbe ounje f’egbe t’o tun gb’awo bo, e ba un wa obinrin to ri bi yin.’ This means: Help me find a woman that is as beautiful, intelligent, dutiful and responsible as you.

Tatalo, like most of the elites’ socialites, wanted not just a beautiful lady but the one that has all the best qualities in a woman. He was desirous of the vintage or the quintessential woman.

It was this old Yoruba rich men’s style of demanding from a friend’s lady of her like in beauty and intelligence and the music of Tatalo Alamu that played in my subconscious at the special party put together to celebrate the 68th birthday of the incumbent Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Henry Oladele Alake, at the Benue Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja Friday night.

As every normal human being loves beautiful things, men and even fellow women do watch admiringly, when they see stunning ladies and this is the case of Mr. Dele Alake as a communications strategist. He is admired, loved, respected and wanted by all, keenly.

In my practice as a consultant in internal and external communications management, Dele Alake is the model when people are looking for spokespersons. A number of state governors including two from my state, Oyo, had asked me to look for “somebody like Dele Alake” for them to serve as either information commissioner or chief image maker for their states. In fact, it is usually the case when governors and chief executive officers of big organisations are in search of communications experts. ‘Can you get us somebody like Dele Alake’ is always a challenge.

No doubt, Nigeria is blessed with many great communication specialists and we have seen them practice their trade outstandingly. However, Dele Alake is Dele Alake. Nobody can be like him.

As the Yoruba elites graduated from having just beautiful ladies to searching for courtesans with beauty, brains and good conduct; wanting the best in their women, people in authority are now on the hunt for communications experts who are all-rounders.

Rising to the peak of his career in journalism as Editor and thereafter becoming Chief Press Secretary, Commissioner for Strategy and Information and CEO of global media organisations, Dele Alake is an embodiment of success in journalism and communications strategy. He is indeed the quintessential Communications Strategist in all ramifications.

However, now that the owner of Dele Alake or his buddy (as Mr. Bayo Onanuga described him), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu refused to make him the Minister of Information and Strategy, we may, on a lighter note, help the President too, to look for somebody like Dele Alake. E je ki a ba President wa na wa eni kan t’o da bi Dele Alake!

Happy birthday, sir!

NRC Grants Lagos  3-year, 6-month Licenses For Train Lines

0

From Rotimi Asher,  Lagos

Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has granted Lagos a three-year operational license for the Blue Line and a six-month temporary license for the Red Line.

The licenses were officially handed over on Friday by NRC’s Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, to Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority ,LAMATA, on behalf of the Lagos State Government.

LAMATA announced this in a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, stating,

“A significant milestone in Nigerian railway transportation has been recorded by the Lagos State Government as the Nigerian Railway Corporation ,NRC, issued operational licences for Lagos Rail Mass Transit ,LRMT, Blue and Red Lines”, the statement read in part.

It added, “The NRC granted a three-year operational license for the Blue Line and a temporary six-month license for the Red Line”.

The statement noted that the licenses were issued following nearly three years of assessment of the Blue Line’s infrastructure and operations, along with testing the pre-operational capacity of the Red Line.

The approval for the Red Line comes just days before passenger operations are set to commence on its 27-kilometer first phase, from Oyingbo to Agbado, on October 15, with permanent approval pending further assessments.

Okhiria, in the statement, praised LAMATA’s efforts in securing the licenses, expressing confidence in their success and noting that this marks the first time another entity will operate trains in Nigeria.

The Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan focuses on developing a robust metro rail system, with six Light Rail Transit ,LRT, lines forming the backbone of the city’s modern, sustainable, and efficient transit solutions.

The Blue Line, a 27km rail line, is a key part of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit ,LRMT, system. Its first phase, covering 13km from Marina to Mile 2, was completed in 2023 and began commercial operations in September, having transported around 2 million passengers since then.

Powered by its own dedicated power plant, the Blue Line is positioned to significantly enhance mobility across Lagos.

The Red Line, a 37km project, connects Agbado in Ogun State to Oyingbo, Lagos. Its first phase spans 27km and features eight strategically located stations: Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo, enhancing connectivity across Lagos and into Ogun State. Passenger operations on the first phase are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, October 15.

Other proposed rail lines under the master plan include the 68km Green Line (from Lekki Free Trade Zone to Marina), the 85.7km Purple Line (from Redemption Camp to Ojo), the 48km Orange Line (from Ikeja CBD to Agbowa), and the Yellow Line.

In August, LAMATA announced that the Nigerian Railway Corporation ,NRC, had conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Blue Line, a crucial step in securing the 3-year operational license for the electric rail system.

However, some Nigerians raised concerns over the NRC’s dual role as both regulator and player in the industry.

House Committee On Sports Condemns Libya Government Over Inhuman Treatment of Super Eagles Players

0

Joel Ajayi

Chairman House Committee on Sports, Honourable, Kabiru Amadu has expressed displeasure and deep disappointment over the ill treatment of the Super Eagles in Libya ahead of Tuesday’s AFCON Qualifier in Benghazi.

In a statement signed by the Media Team Chairman House Committee on Sports on Monday in Abuja.

It will be recalled that Players of the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Delegation were held hostage for more than twelve hours at the Al Abag Airport without access to Food and Internet.

The lives of the Nigerian Delegation were put in serious danger when their flight was abruptly diverted to another Airport, one hour to landing in Benghazi.

According to the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, the behaviour of the Libyans have gone beyond normal routine antics that teams do to unsettled their opponents with this kind of behaviour that is capable of endangering the lives of the Nigeria Delegation.

” This is absolutely not Sportsmanship at all and expect everybody in football to condemn behaviour like this in its entirety”.

” You can’t subject players to such a risky treatment because you want to win a game and I strongly think CAF must take this up because this is not good for the image of football on the continent “.

” Our Football in Africa should have gone pass barbaric behaviour like this and this is a big challenge for CAF to ensure this kind of thing is not seen around the game “.

The Chairman however praised the Super Eagles players for their tenacity and patriotic spirit and assured them that the Nigerian Government will always prioritise their safety.

The Super Eagles were scheduled to take on the Libyans on Tuesday in a reversed fixture of the 2025 AFCON Qualifier after defeating then 1-0 in Uyo on Friday.
