Over 270 athletes from across Nigeria are set to battle for honours at the 13th edition of the Korean Ambassador’s Taekwondo Cup, taking place from October 17th to 19th, 2025, inside the Indoor Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Speaking ahead of the championship on Friday in Abuja, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Mrs. Rita Mosindi, commended the Korean Ambassador for his consistent support and partnership with the Federation in promoting the growth of Taekwondo in Nigeria.

Mrs. Mosindi  said Reaching the 13th edition of this championship speaks volumes about the transparency, accountability, and commitment that have sustained it over the years.

“The tournament will not only provide an opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills but will also serve as a ranking event for national classification.

“I expect to see the best of our athletes demonstrate their techniques and skills to impress both the guests and spectators. This event also provides a chance for athletes to earn valuable ranking points,” she added.

On preparations, the NTF scribe assured that the Federation is fully ready to deliver a seamless and exciting competition.

“All hands are on deck. Everything is in place, and we are ready to deliver a hitch-free tournament,” she assured.

Highlighting the championship’s developmental impact, Mrs. Mosindi noted that several athletes who recently represented Nigeria at international events were first discovered through previous editions of the Ambassador’s Cup.

“We’re confident that this edition will produce more talented athletes who can represent Nigeria at the upcoming Islamic Games and the African Youth Games in Angola,” she said.

According to her, the Korean Ambassador’s Cup remains one of the Federation’s flagship annual events and marks the final major tournament of the year for the NTF. However, several club-level competitions, including the Governor of Niger State Cup and a Women’s Championship in Benin City, are still on the calendar.

The closing ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, October 19th, will feature the Korean Ambassador alongside other dignitaries, who will participate in the medal presentation and closing festivities.

Mrs. Mosindi expressed optimism that the 13th edition will close on a colourful and memorable note, celebrating excellence, sportsmanship, and the enduring partnership between Nigeria and Korea through Taekwondo.
