Former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has been nominated as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Ladoja was nominated yesterday during a meeting of the Olubadan-in-Council at Oke-Aremo palace of the Olubadan.
The council is made up of 11 high-ranking chiefs, including Ladoja, who are successors to the throne.
Balogun Olubadan of the military line, Tajudeen Ajibola said the council unanimously signed Ladoja’s nomination and will forward his name to Governor Seyi Makinde for confirmation.
The nomination came after the conclusion of the 21-day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7 after one year on the throne.
“We will forward the resolutions of our meeting to Governor Makinde. He will now pick a date to present the staff of iffice to the new Olubadan.
“The late Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin will be buried this week. So, this week is not feasible.
“He (Makinde) may decide to pick three weeks, two weeks or one week.”
Ladoja, a former senator and Otun Olubadan, is the next in line to ascend the ancestral throne from the civil line.
