Continental Chairman of Nigeria in Diaspora Organisation, NIDO, Africa, Professor Jude Osakwe said the group has successfully rescued and secured full scholarship for two young Nigerian siblings, four-year-old Victor Chinaemerem Onwuepe and two-year-old Blessing Adaeze Onwuepe, who were left stranded in Tunisia after their mother was apprehended by local authorities.
In a telephone chat with our correspondent yesterday in Asaba, Osakwe expressed joy over the successful return of the two stranded children, NIDO Africa’s full scholarship support for them and their reunion with their families in Nigeria.
“First and foremost, we thank God for this feat. In a remarkable display of compassion and dedication, NIDO Africa not only facilitated their safe return, but also secured full scholarship for both children up to secondary school level.
“The plight of the Onwuepe children drew NIDO Africa’s attention. It sprang into action to ensure their safe repatriation. Through relentless advocacy and public outcry, the organisation pressured the Nigerian Embassy in Tunisia to take action, ultimately leading to the children’s successful return to Nigeria. Victor and Blessing have now been reunited with their grandparents.
“NIDO Africa had equally secured full scholarship for the children as they recently reunited with their families. We are happy to announce that the organisation has secured scholarship up to secondary school level for them. It will also monitor their growth and development, ensuring that they have a bright future ahead.
“This intervention showcases NIDO Africa’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerians abroad, particularly in times of crisis. By providing immediate support and long-term opportunities, NIDO Africa is dedicated to securing the well-being and promising future of its nationals in the diaspora,” he said.
