The newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Garki, Abuja, Rotarian Irene Okoeguale, has unveiled a bold and ambitious agenda for her tenure—pledging to deliver impactful projects in critical areas including electricity access, educational scholarships, environmental sustainability, community health, and youth empowerment.

Okoeguale, who was officially sworn in as the 37th President of the club, made the announcements during her installation ceremony held on Friday at the Exhibition Pavilion, 903 Tafawa Balewa Way, Abuja.

Speaking under the Rotary International theme for the year, “United for Good,” Okoeguale emphasized the power of collective action saying “Rotary is not about one person. The strength of our impact lies in our collective effort. When we work together, we can achieve much more.”

She reaffirmed the club’s dedication to the Rotary ideal of “service above self,” highlighting initiatives aimed at uplifting underserved communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

One of the flagship projects announced is the installation of solar-powered streetlights in rural areas to boost security and enable night-time economic activities.

“We believe access to clean and sustainable power is a right, not a privilege. Through this intervention, we aim to light up lives and enhance productivity after dark,” she said.

In line with Rotary’s environmental sustainability mandate, the club also plans to embark on an aggressive tree-planting campaign and public awareness initiatives on climate action, proper waste management, and environmental preservation.

To address educational inequality, Okoeguale announced the launch of a scholarship fund aimed at supporting children from low-income families through primary and secondary school.

“When you educate one child, you elevate an entire generation,” she noted, underscoring the long-term impact of access to quality education.

On the health front, the club will organize periodic medical outreach programs, including free health screenings, maternal and child health education, and donations of essential medical supplies to poorly resourced primary healthcare centres.

Additionally, the new leadership is set to implement a robust youth empowerment programme focusing on vocational training, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship development.

“Our youths are brimming with potential. We want to channel that energy into productive ventures by equipping them with practical skills and mentorship,” she added.

President Okoeguale called on partners, corporate organizations, government agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the club’s vision and collaborate in delivering sustainable development to communities in need.

The immediate past President, Rotarian Joachim Ezeji, commended Okoeguale’s passion and foresight, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the club to new heights.

“Her vision is clear, and her heart is in the right place. I have no doubt that under her leadership, the Rotary Club of Garki will achieve even greater milestones.”

As the club begins this new chapter, expectations are high for a transformative year driven by purpose, compassion, and community-focused impact.
