North East Development Commission, NEDC, has distributed food and non-food items to flood victims in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The items, comprising 25kg bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, 10kg bags of sugar, cartons of noodles, gallons of vegetable oil, mats and blankets, were distributed to 3,200 households affected by flash flood in various communities in Maiduguri.
Some of the residents were rendered homeless with more then 10 buildings destroyed, and a graveyard in Zajeri area submerged.
State Coordinator of NEDC, Engr Mohammed Umar, disclosed this during the handover of the relief items to residents.
He said the gesture was necessitated by the recent flood in some communities in Bulunkutu Abuja, ,Bulunkutu Seleke, Bulunkutu Ngomari, Zajeri, Pompomari bypass and Ajiri Cross.
According to him, our assessment gave us about 3,200 households.
He added that each beneficiary would receive 25kg bag of rice, 10kg bag of sugar, a carton of spaghetti, a carton of noodles, a gallon of vegetable oil, mat and blanket.
A similar gesture was carried out for victims of flood in Damboa and Chibok Local Government Areas.
Some of the residents expressed gratitude to the NEDC, adding that the items would go a long way in bringing succour to them, recalling how the flood took over their homes.
