The Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of 12,724.652 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs and psychotropic substances, alongside the arrest of 1,107 suspected drug offenders between June 2025 and June 2026.

The State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, disclosed the figures during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Kaduna.

According to him, the achievements demonstrate the command’s sustained efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent dangerous substances from circulating within communities across the state.

Muhammad explained that the recovered narcotics included 9,091.974kg of cannabis sativa, 0.004kg of heroin, 0.315kg of cocaine, 2.949kg of methamphetamine, 301.852kg of tramadol and 3,345.558kg of other psychotropic substances.

He noted that the command intensified intelligence-led operations, surveillance activities and enforcement measures during the period, resulting in the arrest of 1,107 suspects for various drug-related offences.

“The breakdown shows that 1,075 of the suspects were male, while 32 were female,” he said.

The NDLEA commander further revealed that 297 of the suspects were prosecuted in court, while the agency secured 251 convictions through collaboration with the judiciary.

He described the convictions as evidence of the agency’s determination to ensure offenders are brought to justice while discouraging others from engaging in illicit drug trafficking.

Speaking on rehabilitation efforts, Muhammad said the command admitted 94 individuals into treatment and rehabilitation programmes during the review period.

He explained that the beneficiaries comprised 88 males and six females receiving support to overcome drug dependence.

According to him, 78 clients successfully completed their rehabilitation programmes, while another 1,458 individuals benefited from brief intervention services, including 1,413 males and 45 females.

Muhammad added that the agency sustained its anti-drug awareness campaigns across schools, workplaces, religious centres and communities throughout Kaduna State.

He said thousands of students, youths, community leaders, workers and faith-based organisations participated in the sensitisation programmes aimed at discouraging substance abuse.

The commander also disclosed that the agency dismantled 662 drug joints through intelligence gathering, community collaboration and continuous enforcement operations.

He noted that the exercise significantly disrupted local drug distribution networks and contributed to improving public safety in several communities.

Muhammad said the NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse campaign continues to gain momentum through partnerships with schools, traditional rulers, religious institutions, civil society organisations, women groups and youth associations.

He stressed that prevention remains the most effective and sustainable strategy for reducing the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The NDLEA boss expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, security agencies, traditional and religious institutions, rehabilitation centres and civil society organisations for supporting the agency’s anti-drug initiatives.

He urged parents, schools, community leaders, media organisations and young people to continue working together in preventing substance abuse and supporting rehabilitation efforts.

“The fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a collective responsibility. Government agencies alone cannot win this battle,” he said.

Muhammad reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting residents of Kaduna State through sustained enforcement, prevention campaigns, treatment, rehabilitation and strategic partnerships aimed at eliminating drug abuse and trafficking.
