Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has issued a public health advisory, following confirmed outbreaks of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, while reassuring Nigerians that no case has been recorded in the country.

In a statement released by its Corporate Communications Division, the agency confirmed that Nigeria remains free of Ebola cases, but said it is strengthening surveillance systems for Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases nationwide.

NCDC urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid panic and desist from spreading misinformation, stressing the importance of relying only on official public health updates.

It advised Nigerians to maintain strict preventive practices, including regular hand hygiene, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of sick individuals, and steering clear of bushmeat or dead animals from unknown sources.

The agency also called on citizens to promptly report any unusual illnesses to the nearest health facility and comply with all health guidance issued by relevant authorities.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguard public health, NCDC said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates as developments unfold, while commending public cooperation in sharing verified health information.
