Naval Commandant Visits Delta Community, Seeks Collaboration

Newly appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Engineering College, NNEC, Sapele, Rear Admiral Sun Oyegade has paid a familiarisation visit to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major-General Felix Mujakperuo (rtd).

The visit was part of the commandant’s efforts to strengthen ties between the navy and  Okpe Kingdom. 

Speaking at the palace of the monarch, Rear Admiral Oyegade reiterated his commitment to foster a cordial relationship between the institution and the host community.

He acknowledged the strategic importance of Okpe Kingdom to the Nigerian Navy, particularly in the area of engineering training and maritime security, assuring the monarch of his readiness to collaborate with the kingdom in areas of mutual interest, including security, education and community development.

“The Nigerian Navy Engineering College is privileged to be situated within  Okpe Kingdom and we deeply value the support and hospitality of His Royal Majesty and the people of this great kingdom. As we continue to train officers and men to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters, we will also ensure that we contribute positively to the development of our host community,” he stated.

In his response, Major-General  Mujakperuo commended the Nigerian Navy for its role in national security and capacity building. 

He urged the institution to maintain a harmonious relationship with the community, emphasizing the need for collaboration in areas such as youth empowerment and skills acquisition.

“We are happy to receive you today and we look forward to a fruitful relationship with the Nigerian Navy Engineering College under your leadership. The college is an important institution within our kingdom and we will continue to support it in any way we can,” the monarch assured.

The visit also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss key areas of partnership, including the possibility of technical training for youths in the community.
